Mission Year Book report

The Mission Group has grown this year with the addition of David and Anona, following their return to the UK. We have already benefited from their wisdom and experience as we seek to discern God’s will for the best and most appropriate use of the Mission Fund. This year we were blessed to have an increase in funds allocated thanks to increased giving from the fellowship, which in turn allowed us to review the amounts given to the various ministries which we are supporting.
Each year a sum equivalent to 20% of total giving to the General Fund is allocated to Mission. From this, 2½% of the general fund is allocated to the West of England Baptist Association (WEBA), and the balance is distributed between those ministries which we support through regular planned giving, with a portion retained as a contingency fund which allows us to react to one off requests for support, or urgent needs which may arise during the course of the year.
In terms of regular giving we continue to support the work of Zion School Kakuba and Discipleship Uganda, Uganda Ministries and Pastor Stephen, Kerin & Emi Adams in Romania, Claire & Pedro Smit studying at Redcliffe College, Graham & Debbie Frith in Bolivia, James & Sandra Chinnery in Nepal, Touch India, and Kanyawegi. We also support Torch Trust for the Blind, Somer Valley Foodbank, and Stephen Loader. This year additional discretionary gifts were made to Team Romania, Midsomer Norton Street Pastors, the Tear Fund Iraq Appeal, and Issie Russell for her short term mission trip to Southern Italy with BMS.
Please remember to pray for the ministries which we support, working to share God’s love with poor and marginalised people around the world. You can keep up to date with news by keeping an eye on the church website, and paper copies of news and prayer letters are also available on the information table in the entrance hall at Somervale.
This year we are keen to encourage as many as possible to themselves consider undertaking some short term (or long term) mission opportunity, so if there is something that you believe God is laying on your heart and wants you to get involved with then please speak to a member of the team as we have specifically ensured that we have surplus funds to help with such requests.
In addition we are always open to consider new requests for support, either through regular giving or one off requests, and if there is something that you would like us to consider, or indeed if you have any queries or concerns, then please feel free to speak to one of the team.
