Local
Local mission is at the heart of who we are. It is summed up in the first of our core values, ‘Disciple Making’. The ‘how’ we do it, is varied and has space for everybody to get involved in God’s mission to show His love to people. Here’s a handful of what we do locally to obey Jesus’ command to ‘Go’:-
WELTON RUNNERS
A group of mixed ability runners - all ages and stages. We currently run on Saturday mornings at 9:00 from the Somer Centre in Midsomer Norton. Come and join us! We’re also in the process of helping set up ’Midsomer Norton Park Run’. A great way to get healthy, meet new people and make new friends.
FOOD BANK
How it works… Food is Donated, Vouchers are given to those in need and exchanged for three days supply of emergency food. Our local foodbank at the Salvation Army Hall is open on Monday mornings from 12noon – 2pm. See
https://somervalley.foodbank.org.uk/ for more details.
EARLY SHIFT CAFE
For anyone who’s just done the school run or for anyone who fancies an early morning coffee and chat before doing the rest of the day’s chores - a treat at the end of the week! We meet Friday mornings from 8:30 - 10am term time only at Wetherspoons on Midsomer Norton High Street. We’d love to see you.
CAPELLA
A group of enthusiastic amateur singers who love to use our voices, no instruments - just voices - giving that unmistakable acapella voice to our favourite songs. Much of the music we choose reflects our faith but we love to sing all sorts - some have even made it into our mini album
'Gloryland'. As well as occasionally in our Sunday services, and other events in the area, you'll sometimes hear us busking on the streets of Midsomer Norton, Bath or Wells and we try mostly to sing songs that people will recognise and even join in with.
CHURCHES TOGETHER
We are passionate about church unity in our town and surrounding area. We are one of the founding members of our local ‘Churches Together group. We team up for prayer and various initiatives during the year, for example: Easter family fun days, joint Christmas Carol service with local schools, and more.
VISITING TEAM
There’s a number of people who connect with WBC who are not able to make it along to a Sunday meeting, so we go to them! Our amazing visiting team is made up of volunteers who are sensitive, caring and are dedicated to showing God’s love, spending time with people in their own homes.
SUNBEAMS
A welcoming parent/carer and child group - open during term time on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am until 11.00am. We meet in the Old Town Hall in Midsomer Norton. During each session we have various age appropriate toys available such as Happy Street, buggies, see-saw, wooden puzzles, sit on rides, baby gyms etc. We have designated play areas and also a craft table where children and their parent/carer can make something together. Half way through the morning we have refreshments + tea and coffee is available for adults throughout the morning. Ten minutes before the end, we have a singing time to finish our time together.
WELTON WANDERERS
We walk every month to enjoy the countryside and have been doing it for many years now. Numbers vary according to people's availability. We can be as few as 6 or 8 and more than 20 on occasions! It's a relaxed way of getting to know each other better, to have fellowship and also to introduce others to our church life in a non-threatening way. We cover a wide area from the Mendips to the Somerset - Wiltshire border. Some walks are easier than others depending on the terrain and the weather. We walk throughout the year and in all (well, most!) weathers, watching the seasons change.
